7. When the Church tells you that you are
saved at baptism, and Jesus tells
you that you are saved when you (not your parents) call upon the name of
the Lord, in whom do you put your trust?
As caring and loving parents, Cathloics speak on behalf of their
children to the Lord, thus seeking their salvation from the
beginning of their lives. They bring their children up in the
faith, educating them in that life. At Conformation, the children
speak for themselves to the gathered Church community that it is
their desire to accept the responsibilities of the faith as
adults. Being Christian and being saved is so basic to a Catholic
that its like a last name--for children do not choose their names
or membership in their families when they are adults. In this we
trust in God. |
