4. When the Church tells you that
you can't interpret the Bible and the Holy
Spirit tells you that you can, in whom do you put your trust?
The Church does not teach that individuals cannot interpret
the Bible. Rather it teaches Sacred Scriptures must be read and
interpreted in the light of the same Spirit by whom it was
written. The Church offers three criteria for interpretation: be
attentive to the content and unity of the whole Scripture; read
Scripture within the living Tradition of the whole Church; be
attentive to the truths of the faith. In this we trust the Holy
Spirit. |
