DEPOPULATION CRISIS FORCES JAPAN TO SLASH PENSIONS TOKYO, Mar 30 (LSN.ca)The drastically low birth rate in Japan is at the root of a looming cash crisis which has forced the country to cut pensions to new retirees beginning Saturday in a law passed Tuesday. The law will also raise the retirement age for men from 60 to 65 between 2013 and 2025, with women to suffer the same changes by 2030. However, many fear that the changes will not suffice to save the pension system. Last week Japan reported the lowest ever annual population increase, rising just 0.16 percent. Given the birth dearth, the rapidly aging population fears not having a support base of working citizens. The Daily Telegraph reports that "at present, four working people support one pensioner, but a falling birth rate means that by 2025 there will be only two workers for each senior citizen." The same demographic nightmare is looming for North America and Europe and Britain. See the coverage in the Telegraph: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/et?ac=000142592815120&rtmo=VM88ksVK&atmo=lllllljx
